Straight Pull AR’s in Canada

Straight Pull AR’s in Canada

Technically, there are none. AR’s are prohib at the moment and were restricted before then, so there was no good reason to make one into a straight pull.

BUT, there are some Canadian-made rifles that use AR parts that are straight pull that you can make some really interesting rifles from.

The MRA Maverick (308 sized action) and Renegade (223 sized action) are two of them: straight pulls with a recoil spring that launches the bolt forward. You can buy these as complete rifles or as builder’s kits and stick your old AR15/AR10 parts on them.

The SBI LPC is the other one. No longer for sale but I have one. It’s not spring actuated like the MRA.

Because these firearms are manually actuated, you no longer need to abide by the 18.5″ barrel length limitation to be non restricted. 26″ in overall length (OAL) is enough if it’s got a collapsing/folding/telescoping stock. That means that you can build non restricted rifles that look like this:

This rifle uses a short 10.5″ barrel in 300 blackout. You seal off the gas port with a purpose built gas block or just by putting a regular one on backwards.
