The Norinco Type 81 SR is a Chinese made, 7.62×39, semi automatic rifle. A buddy of mine let me review this one. It’s a Type 81 variant (review here) with:
- A stock that makes it look like an SVD Dragunov (some of the early ones had cracking issues)
- No grenade launcher bits on the barrel
- Threaded pins ready for an inexpensive side optics plate
- Shorter mags
- Quick-add cheek rest
That’s about it. I won’t write a long review because it’s largely the same as the regular Type 81. (see my other article on the Type 81 LMG if you want)
These rifles are reliable and accurate enough. The 5 round mags means they won’t be a great fit for action competitions.
Tactical Imports carries side mounts, pic rails, and PO 4X optics but if you want cheaper options, 3 Bar D has an inexpensive side mount plate that allows for AK side mount optics.
These rifles are on sale for $999 from Tactical Imports right now. For that price, they’re a pretty good value.
