Sulun Arms SS-211 Mini Shotgun Review

Sulun Arms SS-211 Mini Shotgun Review

The Sulun Arms SS-211 is a Turkish mini over/under shotgun, kind of like the Warzone 725 shotgun you’d use in Call of Duty but even smaller. With a 10″ barrel and a stubby little stock, it’s one of the tiniest non-restricted shotguns you’ll find in Canada right now.

Specifications

Note: some “factory defect” models vary in specs. Some had steel receivers, fibre optic front sights, ejectors instead of extractors, aluminum or steel receivers, different butt pads, etc. This shotgun is a factory defect model, which may account for the poor forend fit or rough muzzle finish but it was also heavily discounted.

  • 250mm/9.8″ barrel: 12 gauge, 3″ chambers
  • Over/under, both are cylinder bore
  • Extractors
  • 4.5 lbs (2kg)
  • Brass bead front sight
  • 23″ OAL
  • 16.5″ max length when broken down

That’s Legal???

Canadian gun law is confusing. The stock can’t fold or telescope, but it does have a stock so it’s not a handgun. The SS-211 is a non restricted shotgun, here’s the FRT entry on Armalytics if you’re curious. They’re similar to the Desperado, but shorter in barrel and stock length. Whatever you do, don’t modify the stock that comes with this shotgun.

How do you shoot it?

The stock is kind of usable. It’s got a VERY short length of pull at ____, so that’s possible. Or, you can shoot it two handed or one handed but it’s not great. Shooting it one handed will drive the trigger guard into your middle and ring finger. Shooting it from the hip is fairly straight forward and works. If you want to hit anything, you’ll shoulder it and deal with the small buttpad focusing the force into a small area on your shoulder.

You’ll want to keep your thumb alongside the stock instead of wrapped around it so that you don’t punch yourself in the mouth.

The barrel selector is not necessary because both barrels are cylinder bore, but they probably left it on because the longer version comes with it too. I guess you could select between buckshot and slugs? The safety is easy to use and the lock is relatively smooth.

What can you do with one of these?

With a barely usable stock and no chokes, these shotguns are very limited on utility. I guess you could use it as a quad grouse gun, but there are better choices and the barrel length may preclude use in hunting in some areas (like BC?). You could use it as bear defense: loaded with slugs and holstered in one of the optional leather holsters.

These shotguns are mostly for the lulz.
